Heya,

the current state of soulfu development is apparently *really* messy: the "versions" exist as one exe installer and three zipfiles. Version history is completely lost. I would be very happy if the devs would adopt some distributed version control (svn apparently failed to invite the developers to use it). Free hosting for git is offered at github.com or gitorious.org, free hosting for mercurial is offered at bitbucket.org and free bzr hosting is offered on launchpad.net.

I think if we track the currently available versions roughly as single commits and set up a "correct" branching structure for them, it would be much easier to understand what the hell is going on in the future and using a DVCS would allow developers to continue working in privacy until they feel their changes deserve to be seen by the public.

thanks for considering

I'm fairly sure the only actively developed branches anymore are the new savegame and the 1.6.5 version branching from it - since 1.6.5 has huge changes, it should be considered a seperate version.
The others are just there because they're still good, as in, the 1.602 is still my favourite version, despite the lame savegames.

The version history is a bit of a mess, though, I do agree. I think we'll just try to get this forum populated and we can work on that - I'm really not much for coding and stuff.

I'm currently trying to sanitize the code (splitting headers and implementations, using the standard library etc.) without changing too much. I'll write here again when I got the program running at least on linux and osx, currently I don't have a developement machine for windows but it should be straight-forward to use waf there too.
